Car Rental Insurance

When they reached the car rental counter, many renters are unsure about what to do when it comes to accepting or rejecting coverage and relief agencies. Most of the confusion comes from not knowing what your personal or business car insurance covers them while renting the vehicle.

As a renter, you are entirely responsible for any loss or damage to the rental vehicle. This includes theft of the vehicle also.

If you have liability insurance you are covered, but only for liability. Liability insurance basically covers the driver and passengers but not the rental vehicle itself. Vehicle insurance covers you in whatever you drive, provided that driving a particular vehicle is a non-common occurrence or not part of your normal routine driving.

Your insurance company will cover any damages you cause others (property and injury), to the extent the law of the minimum required by law or limits on your policy, if different.

Many drivers are covered in some way for the average car rental. Talk with your insurance agent. The same coverage and deductibles you bring your car will apply – in many cases – for your vehicle hire. Be careful. If your policy provides the minimum coverage, you may need to calculate the value of the loss or damage to new vehicles (rental cars) and decide whether you need to supplement it.

If you decline LDW at the rental counter and depends on your personal coverage, you may be responsible for paying your usual deductible. Also, the cost of loss of use is usually not covered by personal automobile insurance policy. And personal auto policies that extend collision coverage with a rental car may only provide coverage limits equal to the value of your own vehicle. If the value of your personal vehicle is less than the rental vehicle, you can still wear some of the responsibility of the damage.
